Round 1
Pick | Team | Name | Position | School | Height | Weight |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | ![]() |
Jadeveon Clowney | DE | South Carolina | 6’5″ | 266 |
Houston needs a quarterback, but I don’t think there’s a quarterback at this spot worth the selection. I think they take the best player available in Jadeveon Clowney to help solidify a good defense by pairing him with JJ Watt. If I was Houston I’d look to trade out and pick Khalil Mack because I don’t think Clowney is that much better than Khalil Mack. | ||||||
2 | ![]() |
Greg Robinson | OT | Auburn | 6’5″ | 332 |
St. Louis needs an offensive tackle with Jake Long’s injury concerns and an upgrade needed at right tackle. If I was making the selection I would pick Jake Matthews, but I think the Rams will take the upside of Greg Robinson. Sammy Watkins is also an option here. | ||||||
3 | ![]() |
Khalil Mack | OLB | Buffalo | 6’3″ | 252 |
One of my favorite players in the draft, the Jaguars take the best player on the board with Khalil Mack. They could take a quarterback here, but I believe they wait until the second round. Khalil Mack is a hard nose player who can step in right away. | ||||||
4 | ![]() |
Sammy Watkins | WR | Clemson | 6’1″ | 211 |
Cleveland has three picks in the first 33 in the draft and will use one of these on a quarterback. However, pairing Sammy Watkins and Josh Gordon up is too good to pass up for the Browns. I can see the Browns waiting for their late first round pick for a quarterback | ||||||
5 | ![]() |
Blake Bortles | QB | Central Florida | 6’5″ | 232 |
The NFL is higher on Blake Bortles than I am. I project the Raiders to try and get a quarterback to be their franchise quarterback. Mike Evans could be another option in getting a top wide receiver or Johnny Manziel. The Raiders are also reportedly looking to trade down. | ||||||
6 | ![]() |
Jake Matthews | OT | Texas A&M | 6’6″ | 308 |
Atlanta gets a steal here with my number two rated player and at a position of need. A priority for the Falcons this draft is to give Matt Ryan more protection. Another need is a pass rusher which could mean trading up to try to get Clowney. | ||||||
7 | ![]() |
Mike Evans | WR | Texas A&M | 6’5″ | 231 |
Tampa Bay in this scenario gets another big playmaking wide receiver to pair with Vincent Jackson. Tampa Bay hits a need with Mike Evans and sets the potential for a good offense. Tampa Bay could also be another possible landing spot for Johnny Manziel as the Bucs have made no secret of possibly picking a quarterback. Aaron Donald could go here as well. | ||||||
8 | ![]() |
Johnny Manziel | QB | Texas A&M | 6’0″ | 207 |
I can see a NFL team falling in love with Manziel’s playmaking ability and take him in the top ten. I think Minnesota could be that team with a need for a franchise quarterback. While I would pass on Manziel in this draft, I do understand his upside potential. Aaron Donald could be an option here as he is a riser as the draft closes in with the Vikings needing a better pass rush. | ||||||
9 | ![]() |
Taylor Lewan | OT | Michigan | 6’7″ | 309 |
The Bills need some more offensive line help specifically at tackle. Taylor Lewan has a lot of potential as a tall, big and athletic offensive tackle. I personally prefer Zack Martin, but Lewan does have the higher upside. Another route Buffalo could go is pick tight end Eric Ebron. This would give the Bills an added dimension that they have not had to their offense. | ||||||
10 | ![]() |
Justin Gilbert | CB | Oklahoma State | 6’0″ | 202 |
The Lions two main needs are secondary help and wide receiver. Justin Gilbert adds a playmaking corner to the Lions that they do not have on their roster. While I would prefer Ha Ha or Kyle Fuller, I believe the Lions take the more athletic Justin Gilbert to help their struggling secondary. Odell Beckham is a possibility too. | ||||||
11 | ![]() |
Anthony Barr | OLB | UCLA | 6’5″ | 255 |
Anthony Barr has dropped a little through the draft process. He is a raw talent that can come in and help give the Titans a young pass rusher. Currently the Titans are transitioning to a 3-4 defense where their starting outside linebackers would be Akeem Ayers and Shaun Phillips. Barr can come in and play behind these two and be a situational pass rusher while further developing into a complete player. | ||||||
12 | ![]() |
Eric Ebron | TE | North Carolina | 6’4″ | 250 |
The New York Giants face a tough call in this scenario between Eric Ebron and Aaron Donald. They could choose Donald to bolster a defensive line that has depleted some after the departures of Justin Tuck and Linval Joseph. However, I think they give Eli Manning a receiving weapon to work with and help an offense that wasn’t very good last year. | ||||||
13 | ![]() |
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix | S | Alabama | 6’1″ | 208 |
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Rams would be a great pick for them. St. Louis is in need of a ball hawking safety to solidify the defense. They currently do not have a quality safety and Ha Ha could step in right away. | ||||||
14 | ![]() |
Aaron Donald | DT | Pittsburgh | 6’1″ | 288 |
Aaron Donald could go higher than this, but if he drops to the Bears they should be ecstatic. Donald would provide a great pass rusher and disruptor in the middle of their defensive line. Donald along with the addition of Jared Allen would give the Bears a very good pass rush. | ||||||
15 | ![]() |
Kyle Fuller | CB | Virginia Tech | 6’0″ | 190 |
Kyle Fuller is my top rated cornerback and would be a great addition for the Steelers. The Pittsburgh Steelers starting cornerbacks Ike Taylor and William Gay are aging. Adding a young cornerback like Fuller would help the cornerback depth now and give them a possible future number starting corner. | ||||||
16 | ![]() |
Calvin Pryor | S | Louisville | 5’11” | 208 |
The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of defense in this draft at all levels. The two main needs are defensive line and safety and in this scenario there are not any defensive lineman that would warrant the pick. Calvin Pryor would give the Cowboys a playmaking, hard hitting safety they need in the back end. Also look for them to possibly move up to get Aaron Donald who would be perfect in Monte Kiffin’s system. | ||||||
17 | ![]() |
Zack Martin | OT | Notre Dame | 6’4″ | 308 |
Baltimore lost Michael Oher in free agency that leaves a hole at right tackle. Martin could come in right away and fill the need perfectly as a great run blocker and good pass protector. The Ravens could also go with a receiver with this pick. | ||||||
18 | ![]() |
Odell Beckham | WR | LSU | 5’11” | 193 |
The New York Jets are in desperate need of offensive weapons. They signed Eric Decker, but they still need another pass catcher. Odell Beckham can add not only to the Jets offense but on special teams as well. | ||||||
19 | ![]() |
Morgan Moses | OT | Virginia | 6’6″ | 314 |
Miami has quite few holes in the offensive line. Look for the Dolphins to draft a few offensive lineman this draft starting with Morgan Moses. Moses can come in and be a potential great starter at tackle. He will probably start on the right side due to the signing of Branden Albert. | ||||||
20 | ![]() |
Ryan Shazier | OLB | Ohio St. | 6’1″ | 237 |
With John Abraham not getting any younger as the teams premier outside linebacker, look for the Cardinals to get a young player at the position. Ryan Shazier is a flat out athlete that can possibly transition to the Cardinals 3-4 defense. He could possibly play inside also. | ||||||
21 | ![]() |
C.J. Mosley | ILB | Alabama | 6’2″ | 234 |
The Packers will look to take the best defensive player available and in this situation it is a no brainer. Green Bay needs to improve their run defense and there is no middle linebacker in the draft better at doing that than C.J. Mosley. If Mosley goes earlier and neither of the two top safeties fall to them, look for the Packers to possibly trade down. | ||||||
22 | ![]() |
Darqueze Dennard | CB | Michigan St. | 5’11” | 199 |
The Eagles need to get better on defense to become a title contender. They have a need to get better at corner and Dennard would be a good pick. Darqueze Dennard can be a physical man to man cornerback for the Eagles. They could also go wide receiver, but they can wait with this deep class. | ||||||
23 | ![]() |
Brandin Cooks | WR | Oregon St. | 5’10” | 189 |
The Chiefs do not have a playmaking wide receiver on their roster. Brandin Cooks could feel this need as a possible Steve Smith type wide receiver. Kansas City has also been rumored to possibly take a quarterback because of the Alex Smith contract situation. | ||||||
24 | ![]() |
Jason Verrett | CB | TCU | 5’10” | 189 |
Cincinnati has a pretty talented roster with very few needs. However one of the needs that needs to be addressed is cornerback. Terrence Newman, Leon Hall, and Adam Jones are all getting older at the position, so bringing in younger talent should be a priority. Jason Verrett, who has all the skills you want at cornerback, would be a great pick for Cincinnati. | ||||||
25 | ![]() |
Louis Nix | DT | Notre Dame | 6’2″ | 331 |
In the Chargers 3-4 defense they currently do not have a quality nose tackle. In this draft Louis Nix is the best nose tackle in the draft. He had a bit of a down year, but if he can play to his sophomore year level the Chargers get an instant playmaker in the middle of their defense. | ||||||
26 | ![]() |
Derek Carr | QB | Fresno St. | 6’2″ | 215 |
In this mock draft the Browns used their first pick on Sammy Watkins, so a quarterback will either be in play here or with their 35th pick. I believe Derek Carr is a good candidate to go to Cleveland with this pick as an eventual starting quarterback for their franchise. He can make all the throws and has the mobility that the Browns look for. | ||||||
27 | ![]() |
Dee Ford | OLB | Auburn | 6’2″ | 243 |
The Saints need to add pass rush in this draft for Rob Ryan’s defense. Dee Ford is the perfect candidate to play outside linebacker in the Saints system. He may struggle a little against the run, but he could come in and, best case scenario, plays a Demarcus Ware role in this defense. Wide Receiver could also be an option in the first round. | ||||||
28 | ![]() |
Marqise Lee | WR | USC | 6’0″ | 192 |
Carolina need to get some weapons for Cam Newton after losing Steve Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and Brandon Lafell. That leaves the top wide receivers for the Panthers being Jericho Cotchery and Jason Avant. Marqise Lee is a great option for the Panthers to possibly take over the number one role possibly in his rookie year. Guard is also a need for the Panthers that they could explore in the first round. | ||||||
29 | ![]() |
Ra’Shede Hageman | DT | Minnesota | 6’6″ | 318 |
Ra’Shede Hagman is a boom or bust prospect that lacks consistency. He will look like a top ten pick at times, but others will look like a fourth rounder. I can see the Patriots taking a chance on him as being an impact defensive lineman for them. | ||||||
30 | ![]() |
Kelvin Benjamin | WR | Florida St. | 6’5″ | 230 |
The 49ers could add a Kelvin Benjamin as a developmental wide receiver prospect that could turn into a stud. Anquan Boldin probably only has a few years left and by that time, Benjamin could be ready for a starting role in the offense. He is a little raw as a wide receiver, but at 6’5” 240 he can at least be a red zone target. | ||||||
31 | ![]() |
Bradley Roby | CB | Ohio St. | 5’11” | 194 |
Bradley Roby has all the raw tools to be a top cornerback, but lacked concentration and elite cover skills to be a top half of the first round pick. Denver needs to improve their defense to continue to be a championship contender. Roby would give the Broncos a young talented corner back to go along with Aqib Talib. | ||||||
32 | ![]() |
Xavier Su’a-Filo | OG | UCLA | 6’4″ | 307 |
I believe that the super bowl champion Seahawks could go in two different directions. They could either pick an offensive guard or go with a wide receiver to make up for the loss of Golden Tate. Su’a-Filo is an inside guard with good movement skills and strength to be a plug in right away starter. It can help improve Seattle right away with this relatively safe pick. |
